Champagne Deutz

Champagne Deutz was founded in 1838 in Aÿ by William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, both of whom came from families in Aachen, where they were born during the First Empire. Young and enterprising, and drawn by the prosperity then prevailing in France under King Louis-Philippe, the two immigrants from Napoleonic Prussia (Geldermann, a Champagne salesman, and Deutz, a merchant) opened an office without owning any vineyards. They purchased cuvées on racks, already bottled, and then disgorged, dosed, and labeled them. The Deutz and Geldermann House prospered, and when René Deutz and Alfred Geldermann inherited the business from their fathers in the late 1860s, their Champagne sales had been steadily increasing for years.

Today, past and present coexist harmoniously at theDeutz Champagne House , combining tradition with modern management practices. While maintaining and constantly seeking to improve the technical methods established by its predecessors, the new management team continues to strengthen the company’s relationships with its partner winegrowers, visiting them at their presses and ensuring they always apply the viticultural practices that make the decisive contribution to the Deutz character. The same quest continues: combining tradition with technology to create elegant champagnes in the purest Deutz style.
