" Favorite this Meunier, made using Organic, with such wonderful character!"

“Harvested in 2019 from the Sablons vineyard, this Meunier has a delicate nose, blending notes of acacia, lemon, and white fruits. Its winemaking process (with malolactic fermentation halted) and the absence of dosage highlight its freshness, which harmonizes with citrus aromas. Characterized by a hint of bitterness on the finish, it possesses all the hallmarks of a brut nature, with a distinguished character.” (Le Guide Hachette 2024).

Rated Estate (2025 Guide) Award-Winning Wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

Harvested in 2019 from the Sablons vineyard, this Meunier has a delicate nose, blending notes of acacia, lemon, and white fruits. Its winemaking process (with malolactic fermentation halted) and the absence of dosage highlight its freshness, which harmonizes with citrus aromas. With a hint of bitterness on the finish, it possesses all the characteristics of a brut nature, with a touch of distinction.

About the estate:

In 2000, Ludovic and Sandie Durdon took over the family estate in the Marne Valley, continuing a tradition spanning three generations. Managing 7.5 hectares, they began the transition to organic farming for 3 hectares of vineyards; certification was granted in 2013 for the Chardonnay and in 2015 for the Pinots, with biodynamic certification following in 2023. Since 2021, a wine press and a new winemaking facility have enabled the estate to carry out the entire winemaking process on-site, a task previously entrusted to the local cooperative.

About the estate:

The family-owned estate has just welcomed the fifth generation of winemakers, with Antoine—the owners’ son—in attendance. With vineyards located in Vincelles and Barzy, in the heart of the Marne Valley, the estate owns just over 6 hectares. The estate practices certified organic farming for its Chardonnay; the two Pinot varieties are currently undergoing certification. The wines are aged partly in barrels and partly in tanks, then left to mature in the cellar for many years. This estate offers excellent quality across its entire range and also welcomes you to its guesthouse to discover its wines and vineyard. Of note is the introduction of a single-vineyard cuvée, “Les Sablons.”

A tart finish with a hint of lemon. Lacks elegance and offers poor value for money.

I expected better for the price; the acidity on the finish was too pronounced for my taste.

Light color. Very fine bubbles. After a crisp opening, the palate is lively and airy, displaying a distinct finesse with moderately acidic yellow fruit, complemented by subtle notes of linden blossom and a hint of smokiness. A fleeting, briny finish. High price. In the same vein as the Pure Meunier, I prefer—at a lower cost—the Brut Nature cuvée from Champagnes Moutardier, which is more delicate, flavorful, and refined. Tasted at 10° with friends, paired with oven-baked Fine de Claire Marennes Oléron oysters au gratin and pan-seared Saint-Brieu scallops in champagne, to enjoy it right at the start of the season. Good, but nothing more impressive than that. Rating: 3.8.
