Colchagua
The earliest evidence of viticulture in the Colchagua Valley ( "Valley of the Small Lakes" in the local dialect) dates back to the Spanish conquistadors (1542). Indeed, upon their arrival, driven by a desire to convert the Chilean people to Catholicism, they built monasteries and planted vineyards to produce their own sacramental wine.
Located about 130 km south of Chile’s capital, Santiago, the Colchagua Valley stretches from the Pacific Ocean in the west to the Andes Mountains in the east.
The Colchagua Valley is known for its production of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Malbec, and Syrah.
