"A really big bottle!"

“The Vermentino, Rosso Brandinca, Riminese, Carcajolo Bianco, Biancone, and Paga Debiti grape varieties are harvested and vinified together on the granite terraces located between Ajaccio and Sartène to create this exceptional wine, the Général de la Révolution 2023. It displays unprecedented aromatic complexity—highly mineral, very pure, and, ultimately, unique. The same is true on the palate, with a light, crystalline, and highly distinctive wine of almost perfect balance! What splendor. It will reach its peak between 2035 and 2040.” (Jeb Dunnuck 2025)

Grape Harvest

Manuals

Winemaking

Direct pressing of whole clusters or destemmed grapes, depending on the ripeness of the stems. Static settling for 24 to 48 hours. Alcoholic fermentation in demi-muid barrels.

Livestock farming

Aged in demi-muid barrels on all the lees for 9 months, then in stainless steel tanks for 6–7 months after blending the best lots. Malolactic fermentation was halted by cold and SO2. Natural tartaric stabilization was achieved by cold storage. Filtered at bottling. Aged in the bottle for at least 6 months.

Eye

Pale yellow color with golden highlights

Nose

Various floral aromas unfold in successive waves: linden, violet, and daffodil. Delicate marine notes (sea spray and seashells). Scents of wild mint and fennel, as well as fruits such as yellow plum and guava, emerge afterward.

Palate

A lively and crisp attack, well balanced by a silky, full-bodied texture and a velvety mouthfeel. The mid-palate and finish are invigorating, well balanced with the fullness of the complex and subtle fruit, carried by flavors of spices and candied citrus zest. The salty, delicately bitter minerality shines through and gives this wine its lingering finish.

It can be enjoyed on its own for pure pleasure, but this fine dining wine is, of course, best paired with a variety of premium fish—whether served in sauce or simply grilled—as well as white meats and dry goat cheeses...

Rated estate (2020 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

In this historic heartland of the Ajaccio wine region—where a unique collection of old local white grape varieties has highlighted the moral and cultural imperative to diversify the grape varieties across all of Corsica—Jean-Charles Abbatucci practices impeccable viticulture with infectious generosity. The recent vintages possess the suppleness, naturalness, and smoothness expected of them, and have made significant strides in consistency thanks to the close collaboration between the owner and a remarkable consulting oenologist, Emmanuel Gagnepain. The Faustine cuvée shines with pure finesse, and the grand cuvées—Collection, Ministre, Général, and Diplomate—offer the refined complexity of their pioneering blend. New cuvées—Monte-Bianco, Alte-Rosso, and Valle-di-Nero—are beginning to be produced, but the estate did not send them for tasting. That will be for next year.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 94/100 Favorite

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)

About the wine:

Beautiful complexity in the aromas—star anise, fresh verbena, white fruits, apricots, and vine peach—which give way to a noble, invigorating, tangy texture with great energy; the flavors include lovely bitter notes that stimulate the salivary glands and prolong the finish. Well-balanced, with a crisp and juicy mouthfeel; the oak aging integrates perfectly and rounds out the whole. This blend of Biancone, Carcaghjolu Biancu, Paga Debiti, Riminese, Rossula Bianca, and Vermentinu—fermented and aged in half-muids of oak for 9 months—has excellent aging potential of six to ten years. 94–96/100

About the estate:

The history of this estate began in the 20th century with a visionary, Antoine Abbatucci, the founder of this vineyard nursery, a true repository of native Corsican grape varieties. Jean-Charles Abbatucci, Antoine’s son, has taken the estate to the next level (massal selections, rigorous biodynamic practices, rootstocks adapted to the soil and climate, and more). The entry-level wines are remarkable; in the magnificent blends, each grape variety contributes its own aromas, freshness, body, or texture: the wines are easy to drink and refined, thanks to the rejection of excessive intervention, and the aging process has been refined through the use of large oak casks and concrete eggs.
