Bodegas Mauro - Terreus 2012
97/100
Robert Parker
“The Terreus 2012 is a single-vineyard selection of old Tempranillo vines from the village of Tudela de Duero. [...] The color is dark ruby, brilliant (not black at all). The nose is very precise with aromas of red berries, subtle and complex with lovely freshness. The palate is less spectacular than in previous vintages; tighter and more serious with a lovely balance. It has all the qualities needed to age well in the bottle. [...] With this new style, the wine can be enjoyed now, but will gain in complexity and depth if you have the patience to keep your bottles. It appearsthere will be no Terreus in 2013.” (Wine Advocate 2015 - Robert Parker)

About the wine:
The 2012 Terreus is a single-vineyard selection of old Tempranillo vines from the village of Tudela de Duero. In 2012, they added grapes from younger vines planted on very chalky soils at higher altitudes to produce a more elegant and fresh wine, as seen here. The color is deep, ruby-red, and bright (not black at all). The nose is very precise with aromas of red berries, subtle and complex with lovely freshness. The palate is less spectacular than in previous vintages; tighter and more serious with a lovely balance. It has all the qualities needed to age well in the bottle. They still age the wine in new barrels, but thanks to the viticulture—with higher acidity and lower alcohol—the oak has a different impact on the wine. Here, the wood even takes a back seat. With this new style, the wine can be enjoyed now, but will gain in complexity and depth if you have the patience to keep your bottles. It appears there will be no Terreus in 2013.
