“This year he used a lot of grapes from Valdepoleo (he doesn’t buy grapes, but he doesn’t want to sell any either), so the wine has more character. It’s generally a more straightforward wine with more freshness, coming from a clay-rich vineyard; but here, the aromas are fresher and more floral. The palate is lively, refined, and flavorful. A fine example of this wine.” (Wine Advocate 2016 – Robert Parker)

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Wine rated (2016 guide) 91/100 (Excellent wine)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker—The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
Hado 2014 aims to showcase the freshness and distinctive character of Tempranillo from the Laguardia region of Rioja, where Pujanza’s vineyards are located. 2014 was an early and hot vintage, and the grapes come from several Pujanza plots in Laguardia. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels for one year. This year, he used a lot of grapes from Valdepoleo (he doesn’t buy grapes but doesn’t want to sell any either), so the wine has more character. It’s generally a more straightforward wine with greater freshness, coming from a vineyard rich in clay; but here, the aromas are fresher and more floral. The palate is lively, refined, and flavorful. A fine example of this wine.

Exactly the kind of wines I love, but they might not be to everyone’s taste—especially those who don’t like “Parkerized” wines. It’s very bold right from the first sip, with an intensity I adore—it’s a real battle with my tongue, my palate, and my cheeks: a wine that really packs a punch!

At first I thought it was just okay, but after aging for a year in my cellar, it improved, and all the guests thought it was excellent.

The website provides a very good description of the wine. It covers everything—I’d add that it has a fairly pronounced sweetness, even though the wine’s pleasant acidity balances it all out. It pairs very well with a nice pizza, for example. It’s not a great wine, but it’s a quality wine—honest and straightforward.
