"There are notes of blood mixed with aromas of wild red berries and flowers, along with a nice freshness. It is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. The palate is extremely fresh, yet combines high acidity with incredible power. There is less of a vintage effect with Norte than with Finca Valdepoleo; here it seems that the vineyard—aside from being smaller—is more consistent; the identity of the terroir also seems to be more pronounced than the vintage’s style.” (Wine Advocate 2016 - Robert Parker)

About the wine:
Pujanza Norte 2013 is a Tempranillo harvested from the Finca Norte vineyard. Its actual name is San Roman, but they were unable to use that name; the nickname people use is “North,” due to the powerful wines from the north, which give it a very clean and rather fresh character. It is a 2.7-hectare plot on clay-limestone soils, where the limestone bedrock lies 50 cm below the surface. The vineyard faces north and is located at an elevation of 720 meters. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts, as does malolactic fermentation. There are notes of blood mingled with aromas of wild red berries and flowers, with good freshness. Aging takes place for 14 months in French oak barrels. The palate is extremely fresh, yet combines high acidity with incredible power. There is less of a vintage effect with Norte than with Finca Valdepoleo; here, it seems that the vineyard—aside from being smaller—is more consistent; the identity of the terroir also appears to be more pronounced than the vintage’s style.
