Domaine Tokaj-Hetszölö
TheTokaj-Hetszölö estate is ideally situated in a region that has been producing wine since the 15th century, on the southern slope of Mount Tokaj. Since 1722, this 55-hectare estate—which belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire—has been classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé, thanks in large part to the vineyard’s location on an exceptional terroir: volcanic rock soil, a south-facing exposure that ensures optimal sunlight, and proximity to the Tisza and Bodrog rivers, which foster the mists necessary for the formation of Botrytis cinerea—known as “noble rot”—essential for the production of Tokaj’s famous sweet wines. Particular care is taken in the production of Tokaj-Hétszölö wines, including hand-harvesting, organic farming (certified in 2009), and barrels crafted locally using traditional methods from the finest oak from the Zemplén Mountains.
Today, theTokaj-Hetszölö estatebelongs to the owner of Château Cos d’Estournel, the famous château in Saint-Estèphe.
