Cantina Renato Ratti - Barolo Marcenasco 2021

Aromas of macerated cherries and raspberries are complemented by notes of orange peel, iron, and menthol in this juicy red wine. It takes time for the velvety tannins to soften, with a blend of savory and fruity elements on the finish. It displays excellent balance and length. Best enjoyed between 2029 and 2048.

La Morra. Medium ruby color, bright with orange highlights. An open nose with lively cherry aromas, notes of dark spices, and a hint of fresh mint. Much more compact on the palate. Fresh, supple cherry fruit with a layer of velvety tannins. The finish is tight for now—the best is yet to come. 2028–2040

Distinct aromas of graphite, violet, mint, and chalky minerality. A surprising and precise wine, focused on elegance, with citrus flavors, a full body, and sumptuous, velvety tannins supported by freshness. A long, youthful, and flavorful finish. Best enjoyed starting in 2026, but will reach its peak after 2030.

The 2021 Barolo Marcenasco has a brilliant brick-red color and offers great complexity and clarity on the nose, opening with notes of candied orange, anise, cranberries, red currants, and minty herbs. The palate is equally concentrated, with refreshing energy and pronounced acidity, well-defined and supple tannins, and a crisp finish. This is a beautiful wine from Ratti, with plenty of personality, that will age gracefully and continue to improve over the next 15 years or more. I’d very much like to cover more of their wines in the future. 2025–2040
