Domaine Duemani
Duemani is owned by Luca d'Atoma and his wife Elena. A man of passion, he is one of the giants of Italian oenology, on par with Angelo Gaja and Elio Altare. Acclaimed by the international press, he serves as a consulting oenologist for legendary estates such as Tua Rita (the first estate in Italy to receive a 100/100 rating from Parker), Le Machiole (Bolgheri), and others. In 2000, the Atomas decided to take the plunge and produce their own wine. They purchased 8 ha on one of Tuscany’s finest terroirs, around Riparbella, southeast of Florence, and around Bolgheri, to craft one of Italy’s greatest wines: Duemani (which means “two hands”).
They planted three grape varieties there: Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot, producing a total of just 40,000 bottles. The soil structure is extraordinary, consisting mainly of clay and stones. The low fertility of this soil lends Duemani’s wines a more pronounced character and complexity. The estate’s unique location—at an elevation of 200 meters on a west-facing amphitheater-shaped slope overlooking the Etruscan coast—provides perfect ventilation, eliminating the need for any chemicals and ensuring exceptional grape quality for the wine. The vines are cultivated biodynamically, without the use of any chemicals in the vineyard or in the winery, where Luca uses only indigenous yeasts. For winemaking, he uses concrete tanks and wooden vats to preserve the full delicacy of the grapes.
In just 10 years, Luca and Elena have taken their estate to the very top; their wines are acclaimed by the international press and consistently receive top ratings each year from leading global critics such as Parker, Stephan Tanzer, James Suckling, and others.
