“This wine, with its deep golden straw color, is a testament to the estate’s expertise, offering a bouquet that drifts between dried apricots, honey, and prunes. On the palate, candied fruits combine with citrus notes to delicately envelop a silky texture tinged with a subtle freshness. Perfect with foie gras or dessert: this is a versatile sweet wine.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2011 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)
Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the wine:
Still somewhat reserved, with aromas of dried fruit and honey; rich and velvety on the palate, with a clean, balanced finish featuring notes of hazelnut and candied fruit. Best cellared to allow it to develop more intensity.
About the estate:
It is one of the largest estates in the Jura, with 65 hectares of vineyards spread across the Arbois, Côtes du Jura, and L’Étoile appellations. The range, which includes numerous cuvées of all types of wine (ouillé, sous voile, crémant, macvin, paille, and jaune), with a majority of whites, was considered comprehensive but uneven, with some fine Gems older vintages. The wines have regained a certain consistency in quality.

Wine rated (2011 guide) 3***Étoiles (Exceptional wine)
About the wine:
Is there any need to introduce this family of winemakers, who in just a few decades have built a vineyard of the highest caliber and proudly represented the Jura region beyond its traditional market? The technical rigor, commercial dynamism, and organizational skills of Désiré Rolet’s four children are ever-present, yielding vintage after vintage of exceptional wines that stand as both proof and reward for their labor. The first example of this expertise is this straw wine, with its deep golden hue, whose nose drifts between dried apricots, honey, and prunes. On the palate, candied fruits combine with citrus to delicately envelop a silky texture tinged with a subtle freshness. For foie gras or dessert: it is a versatile sweet wine.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 16,5/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the wine:
The exuberant flavor profile of the 2005 straw wine is sure to delight.
About the estate:
The Arbois appellation owes a great deal to the Rolet estate. While it has managed over the years to maintain a distinctive style—a blend of classic winemaking rooted in Jura traditions and technical expertise—the estate has not always achieved consistency across its entire range. The wines characterized by aging under a veil (particularly the yellow wines of Arbois) are the most consistently successful. In the spring of 2018, the estate and its vineyards were acquired by the Devillard family, well known for their Burgundy production, along with other shareholders. Under the leadership of Cédric Ducoté, the latest vintages show greater stylistic confidence and more consistency, which we are delighted to see.

A simply sensational wine, far superior to many Sauternes.

Just amazing! A full-bodied wine just the way I like it—amber in color, with a taste of candied fruit. Best enjoyed on its own; nothing (not even foie gras) should be added that might alter the flavor!
