Domaine Rolet - Côtes du Jura Tradition (Chardonnay Savagnin) 2018
91/100
RVF
"A fine expression of the Côtes du Jura"
A very refined and elegant Côte du Jura, crafted from a blend of Savagnin and Chardonnay and aged in an unconventional manner. It is aged under a veil of yeast for 3 years—the Savagnin in oak barrels and the Chardonnay in topped-off large oak casks. This pairing creates a harmonious balance of roundness and freshness, combining notes of dried and shelled fruits, complemented by subtle hints of fine spices. An expressive cuvée that will continue to improve for up to 25 years.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
It is one of the largest estates in the Jura, with 65 hectares of vineyards spread across the Arbois, Côtes du Jura, and L’Étoile appellations. The range, which includes numerous cuvées of all types of wine (ouillés, sous voile, crémants, macvin, paille, and jaune), with a majority of whites, was considered comprehensive but uneven, with some fine Gems older vintages. The wines have regained a certain consistency in quality.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 91/100 (2016 vintage)
Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the estate:
The Arbois appellation owes a great deal to the Rolet estate. While it has managed over the years to maintain a distinctive style—a blend of classic winemaking rooted in Jura traditions and technical expertise—the estate has not always achieved consistency across its entire range. The wines characterized by aging under a veil (particularly the yellow wines of Arbois) are the most consistently successful. In the spring of 2018, the estate and its vineyards were acquired by the Devillard family, well known for their Burgundy production, along with other shareholders. Under the leadership of Cédric Ducoté, the latest vintages show greater stylistic confidence and more consistency, which we are delighted to see.
