Macvin du Jura
The Macvin du Jura appellation covers all of the Jura AOC wine regions and accounts for 5% of total Jura AOC production. Macvin du Jura is an AOC mistelle (or dessert wine), the only one made from grape brandy rather than wine.
Known since the 14th century, Macvin du Jura is made from unfermented grape juice, or must, to which one-third of grape pomace is added. The five Jura grape varieties—Trousseau, Poulsard, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Savagnin—listed in the "Côtes du Jura" AOC are all permitted in the production of musts intended for Macvin du Jura.
