Macvin du Jura
The Macvin du Jura appellation covers all the AOC areas for Jura wines, and represents 5% of total Jura AOC production. Macvin du Jura is an AOC mistelle (or liqueur wine), the only one made from grape brandy rather than wine.
Known since the 14th century, Macvin du Jura is made from unfermented grape juice, known as must, to which a third of the marc is added. The five Jura grape varieties - Trousseau, Poulsard, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Savagnin - listed in the "Côtes du Jura" AOC are all authorized to produce must for Macvin du Jura.
