Macvin du Jura
The Macvin du Jura appellation covers all of the Jura wine AOC areas and accounts for 5% of total Jura AOC production. Macvin du Jura is an AOC mistelle (or fortified wine), the only one made from grape brandy rather than wine.
Known since the 14th century, Macvin du Jura is made from unfermented grape juice, or must, to which a third of marc is added. The five Jura grape varieties, Trousseau, Poulsard, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Savagnin, listed in the "Côtes du Jura" AOC, are all authorized for use in the production of musts intended for Macvin du Jura.
