Origines is the starting point for Jérôme Bertrand's approach, which not only asserts his belonging to the Paziols terroir in Languedoc Roussillon, but also pays homage to all the generations that have gone before. This juicy, powerful cuvée, with notes of candied fruit, is a pure pleasure to taste.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated wine 89/100
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
The entry-level red wines are affordable in terms of price, and exceed Fitou's quality standards.
About the domain :
Jérôme Bertrand's rigor and hard work on the fine terroirs of Paziols have made the Bertrand-Bergé domaine the model for the entire appellation. The entry-level red wines are affordable and exceed Fitou's quality standards. The unctuous cuvée Jean Sirven bears the name of the grandfather, who was already working for quality viticulture at the beginning of the last century. With its breed and density, this cuvée is now one of the finest in the South of France. An essential Languedoc address.

About the domain :
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Jean Sirven, who made his own wine in the late 19th century. Jérôme Bertrand left the cooperative in 1993 to make his own wines. He was an early believer in the quality of Fitou's rugged terroirs, nurturing and developing the wines of the region, then elevating his 40-hectare estate to the ranks of the greats. Since the 2011 harvest, the vineyard has been certified organic.

Domaine noté (guide 2025) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the domain :
Located in Paziols, in the upper part of Fitou, on the border with the Pyrénées-Orientales, this estate has been part of the village for 6 generations. Jérôme, assisted by his sister and his wife Sabine, cultivates some forty hectares, divided into four islets, the main one of which is La Boulière, an area combining rolled pebbles and crushed limestone. Initially dedicated to reds, this terroir also reveals itself in dry whites. The 1911 cellar is well worth a visit. For those who wish to extend their stay in this wonderful setting, the estate offers gîtes and 4x4 tours of the vineyards.

Favorite for this cuvée in this rich, warm 2022 vintage. Perfect balance between depth, astonishing freshness, charming suavity and beautiful juiciness, centered on abundant, crisp fruit, with hints of spice and smoke, and a slightly fat, mellow, enveloping structure that provides good volume without excessive power. Intensely fruity, deliciously persistent aftertaste. Surprising price for such a well-executed wine. Immediate pleasure with a crispy beef parmentier au gratin with comté cheese and breadcrumbs, accompanied by a crisp salad. Score = 4.2.
