Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 89/100
Rated estate (2025 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About wine:
The entry-level wines in red are affordable and exceed Fitou's quality standards.
About the estate:
Jérôme Bertrand's rigorous approach and hard work on the beautiful terroirs of Paziols have made the Bertrand-Bergé estate a model for the entire appellation. The entry-level red wines are affordable and exceed the quality standards of Fitou. The smooth Jean Sirven cuvée is named after the grandfather, who was already working to produce high-quality wines at the beginning of the last century. Today, this cuvée stands out among the elite of the greatest wines of the South thanks to its character and density. An essential address in Languedoc.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Jean Sirven, who made wine at the end of the 19th century, Jérôme Bertrand left the cooperative in 1993 to produce his own wines. He believed early on in the quality of the harsh terroirs of Fitou, cultivated and promoted the region's wines, and then raised his estate (40 hectares) to prominence. Since the 2011 harvest, the vineyard has been certified organic.

Rated estate (2025 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)
About the estate:
Located in Paziols, in the upper part of Fitou, near the Pyrénées-Orientales, this estate has been in the village for six generations. Jérôme, assisted by his sister and his wife Sabine, cultivates around forty hectares, divided into four plots, the main one being La Boulière, a place name combining rounded pebbles and crushed limestone. Initially devoted to red wines, this terroir also produces dry white wines. The 1911 cellar is well worth a visit. For those who wish to extend their stay in this wonderful setting, the estate offers lodgings and 4x4 tours of the vineyard.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 03/25/2025
Favorite this rich and warm 2022 vintage. Perfect balance between depth, surprising freshness, charming smoothness, and beautiful juiciness centered on abundant, crisp fruit, nuanced with hints of spice and smoke, with a slightly oily, mellow, and enveloping texture that brings beautiful volume without excessive power. Intensely fruity and deliciously persistent finish. Surprising price for such a well-executed wine. Immediate pleasure with a crispy beef parmentier gratin with Comté cheese and breadcrumbs, accompanied by a lovely crunchy salad. Rating = 4.2.
