Domaine de l'Aster - Languedoc Pézenas En Montant La Calade 2022

Hachette
“An expressive wine, characterized by beautiful intensity!”
“A frequently celebrated cuvée, born of the basalt scree terroirs of Pézenas. The Mourvèdre (71%) clearly thrives here, as evidenced by this sun-kissed red, which exudes aromas of black fruit jam, leather, and pepper. The same richness emanates from a vigorous palate, surprisingly fresh, infused with garrigue and mocha, and enlivened by still-gripping tannins. What energy!” (Le Guide Hachette 2026).

About the estate:
Coming from a long line of winemakers, Jacques Bilhac—joined in 2003 by his brother Alex—oversees 30 hectares of vineyards, most of whose grapes he supplies to the cooperative winery. In 2014, the brothers built their own winery and withdrew 7 hectares from the cooperative to produce their own wines.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on March 25, 2026
A wine that expresses its terroir with disconcerting ease. Grounded in a foundation of astonishing freshness, its complexity and pronounced aromatic intensity unfold elegantly within a full-bodied, rich, and smooth texture, polished by refined, caressing tannins. The finish is accompanied by a lingering, gentle peppery warmth. A very Mediterranean pairing with sautéed wild boar marinated in porcini mushrooms and sautéed potatoes with herbs. Rating = 4.1.
