"A moment of pure pleasure!"

“Le Grand Mayol, a blend of Clairette, Rolle, and Bourboulenc, offers an elegant wine with a strong focus on white fruit and a smooth, medium-bodied texture. A lovely wine that needs to be allowed to breathe so it can really come into its own.” (Le Guide RVF 2026).

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Camille Izarn, now supported by her husband Ulrich, produces wines that are all highly recommended. The estate is in good hands following the untimely passing of her father, the late Jean-François Izarn. Terres Blanches is an entry-level wine that feels like a premium offering and is well worth seeking out. The Les Schistes cuvée shows great aging potential; Les Crès is grown on rounded pebble soils from the Villefranchian period. Midi-Rouge, from the Saint Chinian Roquebrun appellation, is the most ambitious cuvée from this estate, which has been practicing biodynamics since 1998.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

A 20-hectare estate managed since 1998 (using organic and biodynamic methods) by Jean-François Izarn, a proponent of gentle winemaking techniques using native yeasts that respect the environment and the terroir. This highly regarded winemaker, recognized and appreciated by his peers, passed away prematurely in 2014. His wife Cathy brilliantly took over before passing the torch to Camille, their daughter.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2025 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

Le Grand Mayol, a blend of Clairette, Rolle, and Bourboulenc, offers an elegant wine with a strong focus on white fruit and a smooth, medium-bodied texture. It’s a lovely wine that should be allowed to breathe so it can really come into its own.

About the estate:

Camille has been deeply rooted in the estate’s 60 hectares of holm oaks, scrubland, and vineyards since she was a child. While she was beginning her career as a journalist in Paris, fate brought her back to the heart of the family vineyard in 2014, following the passing of her father, the charismatic Jean-François Izarn. The young woman has since proven herself, continuing to express the geological diversity of her region—in the eastern part of the appellation—through her various vintages. With the help of Ulrich, her partner who is passionate about agronomy, and her mother, who is always by her side, Camille is spearheading new projects, such as the construction of the wine cellar and the planting of vineyards for a new cuvée set to debut in 2024.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 17,5/20

About the wine:

Tasted blind. This wine is very different from the other white wines I’ve tasted so far. Much more vigorous in terms of acidity and structure. A crisp texture, followed by very pronounced citrus notes: kumquat, mandarin, Seville orange, seeds, zest, and the scent of orange peel. Very subtle spices, almost hidden within the juiciness and sweetness of the citrus—perhaps cinnamon, pink pepper. Dried rose petals. This wine truly has a vibrant energy and incredible length. Roses. Neroli. Truly very exciting.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Posted on March 12, 2026

Delicate and fruity with a hint of bitterness, this wine is round and juicy, balanced by a refined minerality and a briny freshness that lingers on the finish with hints of toast. Charming and easy to drink, it’s perfect as an aperitif on the terrace while nibbling on garlic and Espelette pepper prawns flambéed with pastis.
