Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2025 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Gérard Bertrand has made his name one of the most dynamic brands in French wine production. While he claims to make wines from the South as a "way of life," he is first and foremost a meticulous and demanding winemaker, striving for excellence across his 17 estates. This quest has culminated in Clos d'Ora, a magnificent vintage from the heights of La Livinière, and a rosé from the Cabrières terroir, the Clos du Temple cuvée, which shines with its intense personality. Since 2002, he has been leading a large-scale conversion of his vineyard to organic and biodynamic cultivation, making it one of the most impressive in France in terms of virtuous viticulture. All of the estate's wines are remarkable.

About the estate:
In 20 years, former international rugby player Gérard Bertrand has built an exceptionally dynamic business in Languedoc. For this, he was voted best wine merchant of the year by La Revue du vin de France in 2016. Starting out in 1987 with the family vineyard in Villemajou, in the Corbières region, his empire now sells millions of bottles each year and encompasses several hundred hectares spread across various sites, from Malepère to Terrasses du Larzac. Since 2012, he has been producing his grand cuvée Clos d'Ora using biodynamic methods, a practice he has extended to the entire vineyard. The Château l'Hospitalet on the outskirts of Narbonne is a comprehensive, high-quality visitor center and a place well worth a visit.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 11/23/2025
Art de Vivre is a rather seductive rosé, combining freshness and generosity, evoking yellow grapefruit and, to a lesser extent, crisp red berries. Its soft, light texture caresses the palate, while its lively, beautifully full-bodied flavor lingers in a long, energizing finish with subtle bitter notes. The unique and flattering presentation of the screen-printed ceramic bottle gives it a modern and sensual feel. Guaranteed to impress your friends when served with a homemade tart topped with multicolored heirloom tomatoes, mustard, goat cheese, and herbs de Provence, or more conventionally with a wood-fired seafood paella. Rating = 3.7.
