Toques et Clochers

Toques et Clochers is a designation unique in France, which since 1990 has recognized the excellence of the wines and winemakers of the Sieur d'Arques appellation in Limoux.

Spanning four terroirs and forty-two villages, Limoux benefits from an exceptional location in the Languedoc and encourages each winemaker’s individual approach to crafting exceptional wines. Under the influence of the ocean and shaped by the natural barriers of the Pyrenean foothills, the climate is nuanced across four terroirs that define the wines produced there: Mediterranean, Autan, Oceanic, and Upper Valley. Selection of plots, hand-harvesting, and sorting of the harvest are essential for the production of these great Toques et Clochers wines.

Sieur d’Arques, through Toques et Clochers and its four terroirs, produces exceptional white wines, with the Chardonnay grape variety clearly illustrating the terroir’s influence: mineral notes and a beautiful structure for the Haute-Vallée, floral aromas and notes of dried fruit for the Autan terroir, notes of white-fleshed fruit and vanilla for the Océanique terroir, and intense aromas of ripe fruit with a full-bodied palate for the terroir under Mediterranean influence.
