A fine example of a Minervois wine with a deep garnet color; it is highly expressive and intense on the nose, releasing aromas of ripe fruit blended with a subtle, very pleasant hint of oak. It displays roundness and power on the palate, with a velvety texture and great elegance. It will pair wonderfully with a hare stew!

About the estate:
All that remains of the medieval fortress of the Lords of Oupia are sections of wall—remnants of the outer walls—and a tower. In 1860, Romain Iché purchased the château, which passed to his grandson André in 1970. André undertook the renovation of the estate and the cellar, transforming the property into a benchmark for the Minervois appellation. He passed away in 2007, leaving his life’s work to his daughter Marie-Pierre.

A MinerBois! Open it several hours before serving (10–12 hours) or decant and swirl. A pleasant wine. However, the oak aging makes it difficult to detect the typical fruitiness of the grapes in the blend. It feels a bit like tasting a Bordeaux...

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on April 26, 2021
A full-bodied and extremely dense palate, enhanced by the texture and fleshiness of powerful tannins at peak ripeness, which meld seamlessly with candied black fruits and prunes. Well-integrated oak. An enormous finish with notes of licorice and spice. A fine wine. At this price, there’s no reason to pass it up—ideally paired with a Castelnaudary cassoulet with duck confit, or a guinea fowl fricassee with Lucques olives. Excellent value for money, just like the remarkable, more elaborate Nobilis and Oppius vintages. Rating = 4.2.
