“All the richness and aromas of a fully ripe Syrah vinified using carbonic maceration are captured in this alluring cuvée. Its deep color promises a rich, concentrated nose infused with blackcurrant and morello cherry. The same sensuality emanates from a palate that is perfectly full-bodied yet never flabby, featuring beautiful, fine, and crisp tannins. A lively finish with fresh fruit and sweet spices. Power, elegance, and indulgence: “it has it all,” enthuse the tasters.”(Le Guide Hachette 2023)

About the wine:

All the richness and aromas of a fully ripe Syrah, vinified using carbonic maceration, are captured in this alluring cuvée. Its deep, dense color hints at a rich, concentrated nose infused with blackcurrant and morello cherry. The same sensuality is evident on the palate, which is beautifully full-bodied without being heavy, featuring lovely, fine, and crisp tannins. A lively finish with fresh fruit and sweet spices. Power, elegance, and indulgence: “it has it all,” enthuse the tasters.

About the estate:

Established in 1997, Jérôme Portal, who operates several estates in the Minervois region, not far from the Serre d'Oupia, has made a name for himself in the Guide. He produces a wide range of wines under various labels: Ch. Beaufort, Ch. Molières, Ch. Artix, Ch. Portal, and Ch. Sainte-Madeleine.

A rich, full-bodied wine, even if it’s not the most refined (drunk in 2024, it will certainly round out a bit by then). So I would have given it 4 stars… until I saw the price. A very good wine under 10 euros is a real find these days!

Excellent value for money, with good body and a nice fullness on the palate, without being heavy. Not very complex, but aromatic and pleasant.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Posted on September 11, 2023

An elegant and expressive flagship of Château Beaufort. The violet- and pepper-tinged attack gives way to a powerful, full-bodied, and charming palate, enveloped by a dense yet refined texture with a particularly delicious creaminess, supported by polished, caressing tannins that offer a beautiful roundness without heaviness, though they remain slightly austere. It exudes an abundance of ripe, juicy black fruits, highly concentrated with toasty notes, delicate hints of cocoa, and a wealth of sweet spices. A subtle acidity maintains the balance of the solid structure throughout the tasting and supports a long, velvety, and voluptuous finish. Excellent RQP pleasure. Irresistible right now. The ideal companion for a variety of dishes: in summer, BBQ-grilled veal kidney skewers with eggplant caviar or braised duck with candied black figs; in winter, Caribbean-style chicken colombo or Indian-style lamb shabikorma. Rating = 4.1.
