Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2024 guide) 92/100
Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Isabelle and Mathieu Champart built their estate from the ground up in 1976 and have made it a hallmark of quality, as year after year, everything produced there remains excellent. The apparent simplicity of these under-the-radar wines was matched only by the length and complexity of their finishes. The estate has changed hands; Pascaline Bour, a relative of the Mulliez family, has taken it over. We look forward to the wines produced by the new team and hope they will continue an incredible string of successes in an appellation that, curiously, suffers from a lack of recognition.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
A magnificent landscape, terraced vineyards, a hillside farmhouse, and a very stony, clay-limestone terroir. Since 1976, Isabelle and Matthieu Champart have been cultivating 13 hectares of vineyards (80% of which are organic) in this picture-perfect setting, with an organic approach that predates their official conversion in 2019. They have been making wine here since 1988, the year they left the cooperative.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 91/100
Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
Côte d'Arbo offers a rounder profile, with a powerful and elegant style.
About the estate:
Fans of the Champart couple—both recently retired—can rest assured: the estate remains in top form, true to the spirit of its founders! Nicolas Gaignon continues to bring these beautiful wines to life, rooted in clay-limestone soil. The 16-hectare estate, situated on the limestone folds overlooking the town of Saint-Chinian, began its transition to organic farming in 2019. Here, the wines are designed for both immediate enjoyment and long-term aging.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 89/100
About the wine:
An elegant, fruity nose of black cherries, baked goods, and dried thyme. Medium-bodied with creamy tannins on the palate, it reveals spicy plums and elegant cherries. Very drinkable, but a bit more depth in the mid-palate would elevate it to the next level. Drink now.

A deep color, a rich, fruity nose, and a palate with a hint of spice. The wine is still closed and needs more time!

A beautiful, traditional Saint-Chinian with character in a radiant vintage. Full-bodied, expansive, and incredibly rich on the palate, underscored by a perfect touch of minerality. The texture is supple, smooth, and velvety, with a core of concentrated red fruit accompanied by subtle spices and delicate smoky notes. Powerful, refined, and enveloping tannins that retain a lovely freshness and carry us through to the finish—lingering and equally fragrant, with added hints of licorice. Well-balanced, very well-made, and at a modest price of around €13! To our great delight, this wine—which will continue to age beautifully for many years to come—was enjoyed with skewers of Lozère lamb offal wrapped in bacon, marinated in garrigue herbs and cooked on the BBQ, served with a harissa sauce and garlic-candied cherry tomatoes. Rating = 4.1.
