“A wine for foodies!”

“More robust, Causses du Bousquet offers a spicy expression of Syrah, with a fresh and slender palate. The tannins are well-balanced, with notes of mocha, cedar, and leather on the finish.” (Le Guide RVF 2024). This refined and elegant cuvée never ceases to charm us!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Isabelle and Mathieu Champart built their estate from the ground up in 1976 and have made it a hallmark of quality, as year after year, everything produced there remains excellent. The apparent simplicity of these under-the-radar wines was matched only by the length and complexity of their finishes. The estate has changed hands; Pascaline Bour, a relative of the Mulliez family, has taken it over. We look forward to the wines produced by the new team and hope they will continue an incredible string of successes in an appellation that, curiously, suffers from a lack of recognition.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

A magnificent landscape, terraced vineyards, a hillside farmhouse, and a very stony, clay-limestone terroir. Since 1976, Isabelle and Matthieu Champart have been cultivating 13 hectares of vineyards (80% of which are organic) in this picture-perfect setting, with an organic approach that predates their official conversion in 2019. They have been making wine here since 1988, the year they left the cooperative.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

More robust, Causses du Bousquet offers a spicy expression of Syrah, with a fresh and elegant palate. The tannins are well-balanced, with notes of mocha, cedar, and leather on the finish.

About the estate:

Fans of the Champart couple—both recently retired—can rest assured: the estate remains in top form, true to the spirit of its founders! Nicolas Gaignon continues to bring these beautiful wines to life, rooted in clay-limestone soil. The 16-hectare estate, situated on the limestone folds overlooking the town of Saint-Chinian, began its transition to organic farming in 2019. Here, the wines are designed for both immediate enjoyment and long-term aging.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Toasted herbs complement the dark cherries and smoky notes. Juicy and elegant on the palate, with fine-grained tannins that soften the dried herbs and red cherries. Beautiful texture and smoothness on the palate, with a hint of spice on the finish.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on 12/19/2023

A must-try Saint-Chinian offering excellent value for money. On the palate, this cuvée combines power, density, depth, and complexity with concentrated notes of crushed blackcurrants, crisp fresh cherries, and wild plums, infused with earthy and toasty spices, all framed by structured, polished, and silky tannins that retain a pleasant freshness. It finishes with great finesse, tinged with delicate notes of mocha and tobacco, and enhanced by a bold hint of stony acidity. Good aging potential. This distinguished wine was paired with ostrich steaks in green pepper sauce, served with a gratin dauphinois. Also excellent with small game. Rating = 4.
