“A fine Bourgueil”

“Appetizingly round, with its texture always gently extracted.” (Le Guide RVF 2021) This cuvée, from the Les Galichets vineyard, displays a complex aromatic palette of sweet spices and fruit notes (cherries, blackcurrants), with meaty and salty undertones. The tannins are fine and elegant, and the finish is savory, tender, and rounded.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 90/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

Unfortunately, this 2017 vintage has a slight animal note. Nevertheless, it retains an appealing roundness, with its fruit still gently extracted.

About the estate:

Emmanuel Caslot and his sister Laurie lovingly and meticulously continue the work of thirteen generations at this historic Bourgueil estate. Here, Cabernet Franc is vinified with genuine gentleness to express the nuanced terroirs of sand, clay, and limestone on the lower, mid, and upper slopes. Each label is judiciously adorned with a color that reflects the intensity and complexity of the wine: from vibrant red for Peu Muleau to deep purple for Grand-Mont. These quintessential Bourgueil wines highlight the refined, cool austerity of Cabernet Franc while possessing a magnificent, smooth texture. We must also commend the aging process in the tuffeau cellars before release.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Posted on August 18, 2023

Cabernet Franc enthusiasts who have been patient will be charmed by the old vines of this 2017 vintage, which produce a pure, straightforward wine, supported by a delicate, silky tannic structure that clearly reveals the limestone brilliance of the tuffeau. It exudes a certain restraint, dominated by aromas of tart red fruits and spices, with a subtle hint of oak. The finish is drawn out by a sustained minerality. Still capable of aging well. Rating: 3.5. Light and fresh, this mature 2017 Galichets was served at 16°C after two hours of aeration, paired with roast veal in a sauce made with small wild mushrooms.
