"This vineyard, located on the heights of Chinon near the fortress, needs no introduction; it owes its name to the echo reflected by the castle walls. The 2014 vintage holds its own. Upon aeration, it releases sustained notes of blackcurrant. On the palate, it offers a beautiful balance of ripe fruit paired with fresher notes of licorice and graphite, along with a silky, round texture framed by fine tannins. Elegance and potential.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins) A Chinon at its peak!

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2017 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more conventional and uniform than the previous one)
About the wine:
True to the Clos-de-l'Écho tradition, this wine boasts a refined structure with depth and freshness.
About the estate:
Arnaud, who has been at the helm for several vintages now, is now in sole charge. The Clos-de-l’Olive and the Clos-de-l’Écho, the winery’s two flagship wines, are age-worthy wines that best express their terroir—the former through depth and the latter through power. Don’t overlook the “simple” René-Couly Chinon, a delightful wine offering immediate pleasure.

About the wine:
This vineyard, located on the hills above Chinon near the fortress, needs no introduction; it owes its name to the echo reflected by the castle walls. The 2014 vintage holds its own. Upon aeration, it releases sustained notes of blackcurrant. On the palate, it offers a beautiful balance centered on ripe fruit, complemented by fresher notes of licorice and graphite, with a silky, round texture framed by fine, still slightly lively tannins. Elegance and potential.
About the estate:
The Couly-Dutheil estate was founded in 1921 by Baptiste Dutheil; today it is run by Jacques Couly-Dutheil and his son Arnaud. With vineyards spanning nearly 94 hectares, including the prestigious Clos de l'Écho and Clos de l'Olive, a modern winery carved into the rock, and impressive 16th-century cellars located beneath the Château de Chinon, it is an integral part of the Chinon wine region’s landscape. An essential reference.

A top-tier wine from the appellation. Deep color, with a powerful, fruit-forward nose. Full-bodied and juicy on the palate. A wine with aging potential that will develop the aromas of a mature wine.

A fine wine that’s starting to come into its own, with plenty of potential; good value for money compared to some producers who charge exorbitant prices for Chinon.

A superb Chinon with character, finally at its peak. Noble, supple tannins with subtle spicy notes; full-bodied and rich on the palate. It paired beautifully with pheasant fillets wrapped in bacon.

2014, tasted in September 2017: The nose is quite closed, with notes of black fruit despite an hour of decanting. The palate is taut, balanced, and of medium length. It’s a good wine but still a bit tight. I’ll wait a year before the next tasting and will revisit this review. I would recommend waiting a bit. By late 2018, the wine had opened up in an unexpected way and reached the level of P. Alliet or B. Baudry—it’s superb!
