“Le Clos de l'Écho is a true icon of the Chinon region; this 2010 vintage captivates with its velvety, deep garnet color. This natural elegance is reflected on the nose, with distinct aromas of red fruits and bell pepper. A fresh attack leads into a full-bodied palate built on silky tannins. ” (Hachette Wine Guide)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2013 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)
Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the wine:
The Clos-de-l’Écho does not come into its own as a young wine. The 2010 vintage got off to a great start but has yet to fully develop its aromatic profile. Time will bring out a depth that it does not yet possess.
About the estate:
Arnaud, who has been at the helm for several vintages now, is the sole winemaker. The Clos-de-l’Olive and the Clos-de-l’Écho—the winery’s two flagship wines—are age-worthy wines that best express their terroir: the former with depth, and the latter with power. Don’t overlook the “simple” Chinon René-Couly—a delightful wine that offers immediate pleasure.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2013) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
Rated estate (2026 guide): 2* Stars (Remarkable wine)
About the wine:
Le Clos de l'Écho is a true institution in the Chinon region, and the Couly-Dutheil family—another leading name in the area—has been running the estate since 1921. From the very first glance, this 2010 vintage captivates with its velvety, deep garnet color. This natural elegance carries over to the nose, with distinct aromas of red berries and bell pepper. A refreshing attack leads to a full-bodied palate built on silky tannins, making this wine a delight to drink as soon as the Guide is released—paired with veal kidneys, for example.
About the estate:
The Couly-Dutheil estate was founded in 1921 by Baptiste Dutheil; today it is run by Jacques Couly-Dutheil and his son Arnaud. With vineyards spanning nearly 94 hectares—including the prestigious Clos de l’Écho and Clos de l’Olive—a modern winery carved into the rock, and impressive 10th-century cellars located beneath the Château de Chinon, it is an integral part of the Chinon wine-growing landscape. An essential reference.

A beautiful Chinon with a character strongly influenced by its terroir. The nose opens quickly with chalky and slightly earthy notes, complemented by lovely fruit with autumnal undertones. The palate remains full-bodied, displaying remarkable freshness that rests on ripe tannins with an elegant presence. A wine that has not yet reached its full potential but is already very enjoyable. Highly representative of its appellation.
