Domaine Couly-Dutheil - Chinon blanc Les Chanteaux 2023
93/100
Decanter
"Discover white Chinon, a gourmet wine that pairs beautifully with a wide variety of dishes."
“Impressive complexity that is sure to blossom with age. It features all the beautiful fruity and honeyed aromas typical of Chenin, accompanied by notes of rye bread and fresh hay, as well as hints of toasted nuts and caramel. It has a lovely texture, great creaminess, and a subtle herbaceous note on the finish. A Chenin from Chinon at the top of its game.” (Decanter 2026)

Rated 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable production, though a bit more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Arnaud, who has been at the helm for several vintages now, is now in sole charge. The Clos-de-l’Olive and the Clos-de-l’Écho—the winery’s two flagship wines—are age-worthy wines that best express their terroir: the former with depth, and the latter with power. Don’t overlook the “simple” René-Couly Chinon, a delightful source of immediate pleasure.

About the estate:
The Couly-Dutheil estate was founded in 1921 by Baptiste Dutheil; it is now run by Jacques Couly-Dutheil and his son Arnaud. With vineyards spanning nearly 94 hectares—including the prestigious Clos de l’Écho and Clos de l’Olive—a modern winery carved into the rock, and impressive 10th-century cellars located beneath the Château de Chinon, it is an integral part of the Chinon wine-growing landscape. A must-visit destination.
