Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2017 guide) 14,5/20 (Good wine)
3-star rating (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Frédéric Niger Van Herck, driven by a passion for wine, continues to pursue biodynamic farming on his 21 hectares. He brilliantly vinifies terroir wines, named after the type of soil on which they are produced. Whether expression-de-gneiss, expression-d'orthogneiss or expression-de-granite, these wines perfectly express the natural character and elegant minerality of their terroir. The great wines absolutely must be aged in the cellar. The reds are more reserved.

About the estate:
Frédéric Niger arrived at the estate in 2009 and benefited from the invaluable knowledge of the iconic winemaker Guy Bossard, the former owner, until 2013. Since then, Frédéric has continued the organic (since 1975) and biodynamic (certified in 1998) cultivation of the vines and is committed to winemaking that is as natural as possible. The brightness of the fruit and the sincere aromatic openness of his unpretentious wines are evident. Beyond the delightful Classic, Granite, Orthogneiss, and Taurus Muscadets, the daring winemaker experiments with twenty-eight cuvées aged in amphorae and/or large oak casks and concrete vats. These wines, full of vitality, take us out of our comfort zone. Following a problem with the Muscadet appellation approval, the wines are now classified as Vin de France.
