"Best enjoyed young, while it's still fruity"

Designed to faithfully reflect the character of traditional Muscadet, this cuvée offers purity without artifice. The nose blends smoky notes against a backdrop of citrus and white flowers. The attack coats the palate with beautiful body and a lively, mineral-driven tension. Ideal with a seafood platter to whet the appetite.

Rated 3*Stars (A high-quality product that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Frédéric Niger Van Herck, driven by a passion for wine, continues to practice biodynamic viticulture on his 21 hectares. He masterfully crafts terroir-driven wines, named according to the type of soil on which they are grown. Whether “expression-de-gneiss,” “expression-d’orthogneiss,” or “expression-de-granite,” these wines perfectly express the natural character and elegant minerality of their terroir. The top vintages absolutely must be aged in the cellar. The reds are more subdued.

Wine rated 14.5/20 (2018 vintage) (Good wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Rising stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a good standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Frédéric Niger joined the estate in 2009 and benefited from the invaluable expertise of the iconic winemaker Guy Bossard, the estate’s former owner, until 2013. Since then, Frédéric has continued the vineyard’s organic (since 1975) and biodynamic (certified in 1998) practices and is committed to winemaking that is as natural as possible. The vibrant fruit and genuine aromatic expression of his unpretentious wines reflect this approach. Beyond the delightful Muscadet wines—Classic, Granite, Orthogneiss, and Taurus—this daring winemaker experiments with twenty-eight cuvées aged in amphorae and/or large oak casks and concrete tanks. These vibrant wines take us outside our comfort zone. Following an issue with the Muscadet appellation certification, the wines are now labeled as Vin de France.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on May 17, 2021

Another fine vintage for this 2020 Écu, with the appellation’s typical style. Lively on the palate, with a crisp acidity and a hint of salinity, balanced by a touch of bitterness. It’s light, slightly sparkling, perhaps a bit short on the finish, but a Muscadet should remain a Muscadet—especially at under €10. Rating: 3.8. Delicious with Spéciales Fine Claire oysters from Marennes-Oléron, followed by a dish of linguine with clams!
