Domaine Delaporte - Sancerre Chavignol rosé 2021

Located in Chavignol, this 33-hectare family-run estate was revived by Matthieu Delaporte. The wines produced—both white and red—faithfully reflect their original terroirs. The estate’s wines are gaining in quality, and organic certification was obtained for the 2023 vintage.

Passed down from generation to generation since the 17th century and now run by Jean-Yves Delaporte and his son Matthieu, this 33-hectare family-owned estate—known for its consistent quality and minimal intervention in the vineyard—is located in Chavignol, a charming village in the heart of the Sancerre region renowned for its goat cheese.

In 2010, Matthieu Delaporte’s arrival marked a shift for this historic Chavignol estate toward soil management, the elimination of herbicides, lower yields, and barrel-aged winemaking. From the outset, the winemaker displayed great ambition and took on the challenge of restructuring a 33-hectare vineyard. This was a major undertaking aimed at producing more refined wines, which have been certified organic since 2023. The lineup combines blended wines (Chavignol and Silex) and single-vineyard wines (the legendary south-facing slope of Monts Damnés, as well as Le Cul de Beaujeu, famous elsewhere for its whites but planted here with Pinot Noir). The whites are meticulous, refined, and well-balanced; the reds are equally well-crafted.

Ripe and fruity, this wine offers hints of minerality and red currant. It is bright, with depth and concentration. Ready to drink.

If you're looking for a Provençal hue in your rosé, Delaporte's 2021 Sancerre Rosé isn't the one for you. Instead, it’s a rather cheerful rosé with raspberry hues and aromas of strawberry and cream. It’s a dry, appealing, and easy-drinking rosé, but with a bit more body than most rosés. Its crisp finish reflects the freshness of the 2021 vintage, giving it a lovely, lively character. Very enjoyable.
