"Great Sancerre!"

"This wine, made from four distinct plots located on the highly calcareous slopes of the Monts Damnés, offers a rich, full-bodied, and velvety texture that invites you to savor it. With a medium finish, it conveys a sense of naturalness and ease, while revealing aromas of lemon, chamomile, and honey of great purity." (Vinous 2025).

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2026 guide) 94/100

Rated estate (2026 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

Located in Chavignol, this 33-hectare family-run estate was revived by Matthieu Delaporte. The wines produced—both white and red—faithfully reflect their original terroirs. The estate’s wines are gaining momentum, and organic certification was obtained for the 2023 vintage.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2028 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

Green apple and wet stones: This wine offers very chalky, smoky, and mineral notes, all with a relaxed character. It features refreshing notes of white stone fruits, accompanied by floral hints and subtle toasty notes of cinnamon on the finish.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

About the estate:

Passed down from generation to generation since the 17th century and now run by Jean-Yves Delaporte and his son Matthieu, this 33-hectare family estate—known for its consistent quality and minimal intervention in the vineyard—is located in Chavignol, a charming village in the heart of the Sancerre region renowned for its goat cheese.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Les Monts Damnés has a bit more depth and even a subtle bitter note.

About the estate:

In 2010, Matthieu Delaporte’s arrival marked a turning point for this historic Chavignol estate, leading to a focus on soil management, the elimination of herbicides, lower yields, and barrel-aged winemaking. From the outset, the winemaker demonstrated great ambition and took on the challenge of restructuring a 33-hectare vineyard. A major undertaking aimed at producing more refined wines, certified organic since 2023. The range combines blended cuvées (Chavignol and Silex) and single-vineyard wines (the legendary south-facing slope of Monts Damnés, as well as Le Cul de Beaujeu, famous elsewhere for its whites, but planted here with Pinot Noir). The whites are meticulous, refined, and well-balanced; the reds are equally well-crafted.
