"Great Sancerre!"

A powerful, rich wine dominated by white fruits, with a rounded attack and lovely freshness, and a dense, velvety texture. The finish is salty and beautifully persistent. A high-quality cuvée that showcases Sauvignon Blanc and the challenging terroir on which it is grown. Don't rush to open it; it will gain complexity over the next few years.

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Mathieu Delaporte is one of those young winemakers who are currently bringing glory to the Sancerre region. His 33 hectares, mainly located in Chavignol, are cultivated with care and offer great originality with 50 different plots, 80% of which face south. In addition, 35% of his vines are planted on flint soils, a rare proportion in the Sancerre region. This rich terroir allows him to produce great single-vineyard wines and blended wines that are complete and harmonious. As prices are still reasonable, it is important to reserve immediately after the harvest, as his wines are beginning to gain recognition!

About the estate:

Passed down from generation to generation since the 17th century, now run by Jean-Yves Delaporte and his son Matthieu, this 33-hectare family estate, known for its consistent quality and minimal intervention in the vineyard, is located in Chavignol, a charming village in the heart of the Sancerre region, renowned for its goat cheese.

Wine rating (2025 guide) 94/100 Favorite 2022 vintage)

Rated estate (2025 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

In 2010, Matthieu Delaporte's arrival led to changes at this historic Chavignol estate, with a shift towards working the soil, stopping the use of herbicides, reducing yields, and vinification in oak. From the outset, the winemaker showed great ambition and took on the task of restructuring the 33-hectare vineyard. This was a major undertaking aimed at producing more precise wines, which have been certified organic since 2023. The range combines blended wines (Chavignol and Silex) and wines from specific locations (the legendary south-facing slope of Monts Damnés, as well as Le Cul de Beaujeu, famous elsewhere for its whites, but planted here with Pinot Noir). The whites are meticulous, carefully crafted and well-balanced; the reds, equally well-made, could gain in charm. We salute this work by awarding the estate its first star.
