Pinot Noir

sautéed chanterelles

The only estate to produce Cul de Beaujeu from Pinot Noir, this little Gem situated on an exceptional terroir on a hillside of Kimmeridgian marl. Its nose is open and very elegant, with aromas of black fruit and menthol, along with notes of leather and chestnut. The palate, beautifully balanced, surprises with its dense yet refined texture, leading to a finish of remarkable length. A great wine for aging that you should discover without delay!

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Mathieu Delaporte is one of the young winemakers who are bringing glory to the Sancerre region today. His 33 hectares, located primarily in Chavignol, are meticulously cultivated and are highly distinctive, comprising 50 different plots, 80% of which face south. Furthermore, 35% of his vineyards are planted on flint soils, a rare proportion in the Sancerre region. This diversity of terroirs allows for the production of exceptional single-vineyard wines and blends that are full-bodied and harmonious. Since prices are still reasonable, you should reserve your bottles immediately after the harvest, as word of his success is starting to spread!

Wine rated (2022 guide) 93/100 (2019 vintage)

Rated estate (2025 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

In 2010, Matthieu Delaporte’s arrival marked a turning point for this historic Chavignol estate, leading to a focus on soil management, the elimination of herbicides, lower yields, and barrel-aged winemaking. From the outset, the winemaker demonstrated great ambition and took on the challenge of restructuring a 33-hectare vineyard. A massive undertaking aimed at producing more refined wines, certified organic since 2023. The lineup combines blended wines (Chavignol and Silex) and single-vineyard wines (the legendary south-facing slope of Monts Damnés, as well as Le Cul de Beaujeu, famous elsewhere for its whites, but planted here with Pinot Noir). The whites are meticulous, refined, and well-balanced; the reds, equally well-crafted, have the potential to gain in charm. We recognize this work by awarding the estate its first star.
