"A beautiful, fragrant Sancerre, generous, with smooth tannins."

"This Sancerre exudes a superb blend of ripe fruit (morello cherry, blackberry, blueberry) and woody notes (coconut, vanilla). The palate confirms this masterful aging: the richness, oak, and tannins blend harmoniously to create a sensation of fullness, fleshiness, and restrained power. Le Favorite put to the vote.(Le Guide Hachette 2025).

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This 14-hectare family estate, managed by Pascal Reverdy, is carefully cultivated using environmentally friendly methods, without claiming to be organic. The Terre-de-Maimbray white wine, produced from a Kimmeridgian terroir similar to that of Chablis, is a great introduction to the estate. This is one of the best value-for-money wines in Sancerre.

About the estate:

The village of Maimbray is surrounded by steep hillsides with Kimmeridgian marl soils. After the death of her husband Nicolas in 2007, Sophie Reverdy took over the family farm (17.8 hectares) alongside her brother-in-law Pascal. In 2019, Pascal's son Victorien joined the estate, followed in 2023 by Benjamin, the younger brother.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About wine:

With peppery notes and ripe morello cherry, A Nicolas goes further in terms of concentration and charm. A beautiful, fragrant Sancerre, generous with smooth tannins.

About the estate:

On their estate in Sury-En-Vaux, Pascal Reverdy and his sister-in-law Sophie produce a range of characterful white wines, with fruity and delicately mineral expressions and smoky finishes. 2020 marks a shift towards more floral and delicate reds, the result of reflections on partial whole-bunch vinification. The arrival of Pascal's son, Victorien, a young oenologist, has given the wines an undeniable boost. This is evident in the A Nicolas cuvée, which has been refined in recent vintages to produce a deeper, unadorned wine.
