"Lots of blackberry, damp earth, and black mushroom aromas. It is full-bodied with beautiful fruit depth and prominent tannins. Mellow and intense. Slate and black fruit on the finish. Needs time to blend. Try after 2022." (James Suckling 2020)

Wine rating (2019 guide) 92-94/100 (Outstanding wine)

About wine:

The Batuta 2017 is a rustic blend from old vines aged for 20 months in 25% new French oak barrels. It has an alcohol content of just 13%. Not quite bottled when we saw it, it was the final blend and out of the barrel. Good. If I thought the Redoma was gloriously fresh, this one easily surpasses it. "Glorious" is the right word here, at least when paired with "freshness." Silky, fruity, and simple, it has a lingering finish filled with fruity flavors. As always, there isn't much depth, and it has a sense of restraint for its level. And, as tends to happen, I have a slight preference for the Redoma in the range. This 2017, however, is certainly an excellent example of a table wine that will go down quickly at the table. Its freshness will preserve it as it ages, but it is surprisingly accessible right now.
