“A Red with Character”

The 2020 Vannières Rouge offers a nose of black fruit aromas—blackcurrant and blueberry—accented by hints of pepper and spices; after opening, notes of ripe olives and dried apricot emerge. The palate is complex and velvety, with silky tannins, leading to a long, lingering finish. Let it age in the cellar for a few years before enjoying it... with garlic lamb, for example!

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2020 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

The estate is one of Provence’s leading wine producers. Éric Boisseaux, a pillar of the Bandol appellation, is passing the torch and now works alongside his son Charles-Eric. While for many years they produced only a single premium cuvée in all three styles, with the arrival of the younger generation the lineup is evolving and a breath of fresh air is sweeping through the cellar. The classic red Bandols have an undeniable capacity for aging, quickly developing notes of tobacco and leather that mature gracefully over time; they rank among the appellation’s finest reds.

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

This family venture began in 1956 with Colette Boisseaux, continued with her son Éric, and is now carried on by her grandson Charles-Éric. The estate features a 34-hectare vineyard, centered around a 19th-century château, whose older wine cellar attests to winemaking activities dating back to the 16th century.
