Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the estate:
This is one of the most famous estates in Provence. It belongs to the Combard family, who manage this 85-hectare vineyard, 30 hectares of which are leased. The vines, located along the coast on schist soil, have been cultivated organically since 1979. Steps are currently underway to transition the entire estate to biodynamic farming. We applaud this commitment, which is no small feat for an estate of this size. While the wines are among Provence’s most reliable offerings, the family also goes above and beyond in welcoming visitors and, during the sunny days of the season, offers a cultural program well worth the visit.

A CDP that appears simple and very rational, but in reality has a pure, taut style, characterized by freshness combined with roundness. The palate is straightforward and full-bodied, enhanced by fruity flavors (pomelo, lemon, white peach) complemented by subtle floral notes. A lovely, delicate, and mouth-watering finish with a hint of iodine. It was superb at 8° alongside a plate of bacalhau a bras shared with friends… Portuguese friends, of course. Rating: 4.2.
