“A Syrah brimming with freshness, peppery and spicy, yet without the wild, scrubland character. On the palate, it’s rich and full-bodied, luscious and velvety.” (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2021 - RVF) A sure bet!

Rated 3 stars (A high-quality product that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

In the late 1980s, Frédéric and François Alary were among the few winemakers who literally reinvented the Côtes-du-Rhône and its villages, bringing a level of exacting standards, sensitivity, and rigor to their production that were concepts entirely foreign to many of their peers. Over the following decades, they have made their estate one of the most appealing and consistent ambassadors of the Côtes-du-Rhône. With their 25 hectares cultivated biodynamically and an impressive heritage of old vines, they know how to craft wines that combine richness and pleasure. Always solidly structured yet without any harsh tannins, precisely expressing ripe fruit, their red wines are never better than after one to three years of aging, depending on the cuvée and vintage. As for the white wines, they blossom with smooth, full-bodied textures and subtle minerality.

Rated wine (2019 guide) 92–94/100 (Excellent wine)

Rated estate (2019 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

This wine is typically aged for two years in large oak barrels [...]. A blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, and Syrah, the 2017 Haut Coustias appears slightly more open than the single-vineyard Les Douyes, but it possesses similar notes of licorice, plums, and black cherries. It is full-bodied, rich, and velvety, with a long finish.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

A Syrah full of freshness, with peppery and spicy notes, yet without the wild, rugged character of the maquis. On the palate, it has a rich texture that is both full-bodied and ample, lush and velvety.

About the estate:

Frédéric and François Alary, who arrived in 1984, have stepped down from their roles at the helm of this estate, which has belonged to the Alary family since the 17th century. Thanks to the efforts of the two brothers and their tremendous work, the estate reached its peak, producing wines of precision—both white and red—on this beautiful terroir in Cairanne through sustainable viticulture. With no one to carry on the legacy, the estate was sold in 2020 to the Abeille-Fabre family, the owners of Château Mont-Redon in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
