"Aged for thirty-six months in barrels, this 2015 vintage reveals a powerful nose of blackberry, blackcurrant, leather, violet, and spices, combined with subtle resinous notes. The palate greatly charmed our jury: impressively full-bodied, both dense and lively, it is supported by very ripe tannins and unfolds a long vanilla finish. A Côte Rôtie with great aging potential." Wine rated (2018 guide) 17,5/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

This small estate produces only four wines, three in Côte Rôtie and one in Condrieu, from its 12 hectares of land, 11 of which are in Côte Rôtie, spread over a large number of plots. Owned by the Guigal family since 2006, the estate is managed by an independent team. The wines tasted are consistently flawless, but they lack that little bit of magic needed to be great ambassadors for the Côte.

About wine:

Aged for thirty-six months in barrels, this 2015 vintage reveals a powerful nose of blackberry, blackcurrant, leather, violet, and spices, combined with subtle resinous notes. The palate greatly charmed our jury: impressively full-bodied, both dense and lively, it is supported by very ripe tannins and unfolds a long vanilla finish. A Côte Rôtie with great aging potential.

About the estate:

By acquiring this estate in 2006, founded in 1961 and expanded and modernized in the 1990s, Marcel Guigal added another jewel to his already richly decorated crown: a 12-hectare vineyard, planted mainly with "serine," an ancient variety of Syrah, which produces Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu wines.

Wine rating (2017 guide) 94/100 (Outstanding wine)

About wine:

The Côte-Rôtie La Garde 2015, very ripe, almost over the top, but its notes of roasted plum and blackcurrant arrive just in time. It is full-bodied and rich, with a creamy mid-palate and firm tannins on the finish, where the fruit comes through. Give it a few years for the tannins to refine and drink it over the next 15 years.

Rated estate (2026 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

Acquired by the Guigal family in 2006, the Bonserine estate has retained its complete autonomy. At the helm, Ludovic Richard can draw on a fine heritage of vineyards in Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu. The entire vineyard is plowed and indigenous yeasts are used as a matter of course. The red wines remain powerful, but they will mellow with time.

Andreas Larsson

Andreas Larsson

Wine rated (2018 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Intense dark purple color. Intense nose, new oak, smoke, roasted coffee, tapenade, and ripe black berries. The palate is dense but fresh with grainy tannins, ripe red and black fruits, spicy and peppery notes, well-preserved freshness, and a very long, fleshy finish.
