"Breathtaking!"

"Three years of superlative aging in barrels shapes character, and this exemplary Syrah has plenty of it. While the nose is still marked by woody notes (bourbon vanilla, camphor, peat), the palate offers a full, silky, ripe texture framed by tight tannins, with hints of candied morello cherry and a balsamic touch of clove. A serious and generous wine. " (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

Wine rated 93/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About wine:

Sample taken from barrel. More richly aged than the other Côte-Rôtie wines in the range, with more body too, this wine has the strength to digest its wood. It is powerful and dense on the palate, with a chocolatey finish.

About the estate:

This small estate produces only four wines, three in Côte Rôtie and one in Condrieu, from its 12 hectares of land, 11 of which are in Côte Rôtie, spread over a large number of plots. Owned by the Guigal family since 2006, the estate is managed by an independent team. The wines tasted are consistently flawless, but they lack that little bit of magic needed to be great ambassadors for the Côte.

Wine noted (guide 2024) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About wine:

Three years of superlative aging in barrels shapes character, and this exemplary Syrah has plenty of it. While the nose is still marked by woody notes (bourbon vanilla, camphor, peat), the palate offers ample, silky, ripe texture framed by tight tannins, with hints of candied morello cherry and a balsamic touch of clove. A serious and generous wine.

About the estate:

By acquiring this estate in 2006, founded in 1961 and expanded and modernized in the 1990s, Marcel Guigal added another jewel to his already richly decorated crown: a 12-hectare vineyard, planted mainly with "serine," an ancient variety of Syrah, which produces Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu wines.

Rated estate (2026 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

Acquired by the Guigal family in 2006, the Bonserine estate has retained its complete autonomy. At the helm, Ludovic Richard can draw on a fine heritage of vineyards in Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu. The entire vineyard is plowed and indigenous yeasts are used as a matter of course. The red wines remain powerful, but they will mellow with time.
