"This dazzling Côte Rôtie, with its silky texture and elegant fruitiness, is sure to delight your guests!"

"The stars have aligned in the sky above this Sarrasine, which accounts for the majority of the estate's production: 10 hectares, each plot of which was harvested, vinified, and aged separately (24 months in demi-muids) before the final blend. The result is a precise nose of macerated red fruits, dried rose, blond tobacco, and sweet spices (cardamom, nutmeg). A flattering and complex expression that is confirmed on the palate—caressing, pure, and slender—built on tannins as tight as they are elegant, with a long, stone-fruit-scented finish that promises a bright future. » (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2026 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

This small estate produces just four wines—three from Côte Rôtie and one from Condrieu—from its 12 hectares of vineyards, 11 of which are in Côte Rôtie, spread across a large number of plots. Owned by the Guigal family since 2006, the estate is managed by an independent team. The wines tasted are consistently flawless, but they lack just a touch of magic to truly serve as great ambassadors for the Côte.

About wine:

The stars have aligned in the sky above this Sarrasine vineyard, which accounts for the majority of the estate’s production: 10 hectares, with each plot harvested, vinified, and aged separately (24 months in demi-muids) before the final blend.

About the estate:

When Marcel Guigal acquired this estate in 2006—founded in 1961 and expanded and modernized in the 1990s—he added a jewel to his already richly adorned crown: a 12-hectare vineyard planted primarily with “Serine,” an old variety of Syrah, which produces Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

Acquired by the Guigal family in 2006, the Bonserine estate has retained complete autonomy. At the helm, Ludovic Richard can draw on a fine portfolio of vineyards in Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu. The entire vineyard is plowed, and the use of native yeasts is standard practice. The aging of the reds remains pronounced, but they will mellow with time.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 16,5/20

About wine:

The nose is dark and flavorful. On the palate, it is juicy and supple, with firm yet ripe tannins. The finish is lively and lingering, with the characteristic freshness of the vintage.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 91-93/100

About wine:

Equally structured and impressive, the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Sarrasine (97% Syrah and 3% Viognier) offers darker fruit notes of black raspberry and blackberry, along with a medium- to full-bodied structure, a firm, concentrated, and tannic palate, beautiful depth in the mid-palate, exceptional length, and the vintage’s pure, concentrated, yet always elegant profile. The tannins here are slightly more robust than those of La Garde and La Viallière, but this wine will blossom beautifully with a few years of bottle aging.
