Domaine François Merlin - Côte Rôtie 2020
"Wine with mineral fruitiness"
Côte-Rôtie, the most famous wine of the Côtes-du-Rhône, is grown on two steep hillsides. The narrow Roman terraces have been "roasting" grapes since ancient times. The microclimate of Ampuis, a happy combination of southern sunshine and cool humidity from Burgundy, produces an exceptional wine. François Merlin dreamed for a long time of this small, atypical plot of Côte Brune before finally succeeding in adding it to the estate. This Côte-Rôtie is a sensual wine that unfolds its delicate aromas in stages for a long, spectacular finish. A source of pride for the estate!

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, but where we are unable to give an overall opinion on the style of the entire range)
About the estate:
This small estate has some very attractive plots in Condrieu, including some, such as Poncin, that are very close to Château Grillet. We were more impressed by the red Saint-Joseph wines than by the Condrieu wines in 2017.
