Domaine François Merlin - Saint-Joseph 2020
The vineyards, located at the northernmost tip of the Saint-Joseph appellation, are planted with Syrah on sandy soils at an elevation of 300 meters. This Saint-Joseph is a charming wine with an intense ruby color. On the nose, black cherry and raspberry notes are immediately apparent, followed by violet, with a hint of spice on the finish. The palate is supple and rich, with pronounced fruitiness.

About the estate:
This small estate owns some lovely vineyards in Condrieu, some of which—such as Poncin—are very close to Château Grillet. We were more impressed by the red Saint-Josephs than by the Condrieus in 2017.
