Vidal-Fleury

30 km south of Lyon, on the banks of the Rhône, stands the oldest winery in the Rhône Valley still in operation, nestled in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie vineyards: Maison Vidal-Fleury. Founded in 1781, Vidal-Fleury quickly gained international renown. Thomas Jefferson’s visit in 1787 was a defining moment in its history. Beginning in the 1920s, the winery began exploring other terroirs in the Rhône Valley. By the mid-20th century, Vidal-Fleury had become the iconic winery of Côte-Rôtie. In 2008, with the addition of a new cellar dedicated to aging, Vidal-Fleury embarked on a new phase of development. The house has endured through the centuries thanks to the tenacity of men who were deeply passionate about wine. Today, Vidal-Fleury boasts no fewer than 19 of the most prestigious appellations in the Rhône Valley.
