“A truly beautiful Côte-Rôtie to enjoy now or lay down for the future!”

Madinière takes its name from the stream at the foot of the hillside where the Syrah vines are planted. Aged for 16 months in oak barrels, the wine elegantly and richly reveals a deep bouquet typical of the variety: stone fruits, violets, and white pepper. The palate, full of delicacy, is fresh on the attack and then becomes velvety and crisp.

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated 3 stars (A high-quality product that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Yves Cuilleron is the largest winegrower in the entire Northern Rhône, currently cultivating 65 hectares and producing some twenty wines, primarily from Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, and Côte Rôtie; only the Crozes is made from purchased grapes. Native yeasts and aging in oak (9 months for whites, 18 months for reds) define a style that is certainly oaky but one in which each terroir ultimately expresses itself. Starting with the 2015 vintage, each appellation offers a cuvée named after a specific vineyard site. One of the leading estates in the Rhône Valley.

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

A leading name in the northern valley, particularly for its Condrieu wines. Based in Chavanay, Yves Cuilleron took over the estate in 1987, which had been founded in 1920 by his paternal grandfather and later managed by his uncle Antoine. He has gradually expanded the estate (now 70 hectares), planted with high-density vines and managed in a highly sustainable manner on the right bank of the Rhône (Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Saint-Péray, and Cornas) and, since 2012, on the left bank (Crozes-Hermitage).

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

In 1987, Yves Cuilleron took over the family estate founded by his grandfather in 1920. Dynamic and enterprising, Yves has continued to expand the estate, which now spans 90 hectares across the major appellations of the northern Rhône Valley, complemented by a wine merchant business. The style of the wines has become more refined in recent years, and the focus on terroir is growing thanks to a very interesting range of single-vineyard wines. It is a trusted producer.

Review by Mr. JEAN-MICHEL P. Published on July 18, 2025

A subtle nose of red fruit with hints of spice, followed by a very fresh, medium-bodied, and lively palate supported by very fine tannins. A southern wine with great freshness and an unpretentious, straightforward elegance.
