“A classic profile, a true expression of its garrigue terroir!”
“A beautiful nose of black fruit, violets, and spices. On the palate, it features fine, structured, and dense tannins, a touch of acidity, and a salty, graphite-like note on the finish—wonderfully expressive and indulgent, yet with great structure!” (Jancis Robinson 2024). Structured, fruity, and crisp—you’ll never tire of it!

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Some winemakers single-handedly embody an entire appellation, and the charismatic Marcel Richaud is one of them. He has undoubtedly contributed to giving prestige to the newest of the southern Côtes du Rhône wines. A visionary and pioneer of parcel-based viticulture, he still dreams of a classification similar to that of Burgundy's climats. With 45 vintages under his belt, he strives to be as non-interventionist as possible in the cellar and in the vineyard. Like Emmanuel Reynaud, he allows his grapes to reach optimal maturity, producing wines that are both delicious and elegant, with a distinctive style. All of the wines tasted this year received the highest ratings, proving to be highly recommendable and of absolutely remarkable consistency. The younger generation, who joined the family business a few years ago, is determined to perpetuate the house's expertise. However, as if to mark a turning point, Claire and Thomas have acquired an additional 20 hectares, half of which adjoins the famous Ebrescades plot, promising some pleasant surprises in the future. Most recently, Edith, the youngest of the family, has succumbed to the siren call of the vineyards. After a brilliant career in Paris in the luxury sector, she has finally settled in the charming little village of Cairanne, bringing a significant additional asset to the wonderful Richaud family.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on November 16, 2024
Les Galets has made the most of the exceptional 2023 vintage, which offers both opulence and intensity, as well as aromatic richness. With a robust structure, the wine exhibits a dense yet highly expressive juiciness, featuring flavors of stewed red fruits, notes of licorice and Mediterranean scrub, enhanced by a pronounced peppery edge. The thick texture with a slightly grainy mouthfeel is all the more smooth and caressing, with ample, silky tannins. A pleasant freshness accompanies the long, spicy finish. As seductive as can be and already ready to enjoy for its fruitiness, Les Galets once again delighted the palate when paired with roasted duck fillets and a balsamic vinegar reduction, accompanied by sautéed baby potatoes. Rating = 4.5.
