Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

A classic estate in the Mercurol region, which consistently produces supple wines meant to be enjoyed young. The Gaby cuvée is often more ambitious, though in some vintages with less substance, the oak can be a bit too pronounced. The reds here are more successful than the whites, as confirmed by our tasting of the 2017 vintage.

About the estate:

Located in Mercurol, the estate proudly flies the flag for the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, of which it is one of the most reliable producers, particularly with its Gaby vintages, which are more ambitious and complex.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Posted on May 3, 2024

A beautifully crafted classic Crozes-Hermitage. After a crisp opening, the palate unfolds with freshness, breadth, and depth, allowing the Syrah to express itself with finesse rather than brute force. The palate is lush, with a juicy texture featuring flavors of red and black fruits (blackcurrant, purple plums, black cherries), well-balanced spices, and a hint of mocha in the background. It is well-supported by medium-bodied, ripe tannins with a silky grain—perhaps still a bit pronounced—leading us to a vibrant finish of very appreciable length, underscored by a fine acidity wrapped in a peppery touch and hints of licorice. Not a single misstep. For a family First Communion dinner, this lovely Crozes was a unanimous hit among the guests, served with Camargue bull tournedos with herbs cooked on the BBQ, accompanied by a Provençal vegetable tian. Rating = 4.4.
