"One of the best introductions to Northern Rhône Syrah".
"If you want to discover Syrah from the Northern Rhône, this is the best introduction to the dark, smoky personality of these wines and their fantastic wild blackberry fruit. The mineral tannins and acidity are exciting on the very concentrated, stony palate. So energetic and fresh for this hot, dry vintage. Very long and pure finish. (James Suckling 2024). Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 5*Stars (Exceptional producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)
About the domain :
Today, Michel Chapoutier is ably supported by his children Mathilde and Maxime, to run the most important wine house in the Northern Rhône, and a long-standing specialist in Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage. Chapoutier is not only a major wine merchant, but also a producer of top-flight domaine cuvées, as the estate's vines have long been cultivated biodynamically. Sélections parcellaires, the top-of-the-range wines, perfectly reflect Chapoutier's philosophy: parcel-based, single-varietal and produced every year, they are above all a reflection of the terroir, in all its good aspects and sometimes its excesses.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
Enticing fruity aromas with a cheeky touch of oak, adding complexity. A touch of meat also enhances the savory blackberry flavors. Light to medium-bodied on the palate, with a balsamic note. The tannins are generous, but relatively fine for this vintage, which can be quite massive. This wine would benefit from decanting. Only 25% barrel-aged, fermented with natural yeasts.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2023) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
This venerable (19th c.) and unmissable house, brought into international orbit by Michel Chapoutier in the 1990s, offers a wide range from its own vineyards (345 ha, biodynamic) or purchased grapes, in most of the Rhône Valley's leading appellations, as well as in Roussillon and Alsace. His children, Mathilde and Maxime, have recently joined the family adventure.

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the domain :
Under the Maison M. Chapoutier address, we bring together wines from the trading activities of this two-hundred-year-old institution in Tain-l'Hermitage. Michel Chapoutier, now accompanied by his daughter Mathilde, offers a wide range of Rhône appellations, with a production volume approaching one million bottles. But the Chapoutier name is also present in other regions (Champagne, Alsace, Languedoc and Australia), a testament to the family's dynamism. While some cuvées are convincing, others are far more unspectacular. This heterogeneity has led us to withdraw the star from the house this year.

About the wine:
Very welcoming nose of dense prune and black fruit. Firm on the palate, with crisp tannins and an earthy, ferruginous note. Licorice and spice are present, and the wine seems to be very worked at the moment. It takes time for these fierce tannins to tame, but there's an attractive fleshy core underneath.

The mineral tannins and acidity are exciting on the very concentrated, stony palate. So energetic and fresh for this hot, dry vintage. Very long, pure finish. Made from organically grown grapes. To enjoy or keep.
