“A vibrant Syrah—always a success!”
“The estate’s classic label blends several plots situated on granitic soils, with schist in places. Made from partially destemmed grapes (80%) and aged for 12 months in barrels, this 2023 vintage offers a bouquet that is still subtle, fruity (red berries), and pleasantly herbal (carnation). On the palate, it is appealing with its velvety texture, rounded, subtly oaky tannins, and a relaxed finish accented with paprika. It is expected to pair beautifully in two or three years with a delicious free-range chicken in cream sauce.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026)

Rated estate (2024 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
Jérôme Coursodon heads one of the renowned estates in Mauves. The Saint-Joseph wines from this part of the appellation (Mauves-Tournon) differ from those further north, around Sarras, even though all are produced on granitic soils. The estate’s reds are often more fully developed than the whites.

About the wine:
The estate’s classic label blends several plots situated on granitic soils, with schist in some areas. Made from a partially destemmed harvest (80%) and aged for 12 months in barrels with minimal intervention, this 2023 vintage offers a bouquet that is still subtle, fruity (red berries), and pleasantly herbal (carnation). On the palate, it is appealing with its velvety texture, rounded, subtly oaky tannins, and a relaxed finish accented with paprika. It is expected to pair beautifully in two or three years with a delicious free-range chicken dish in cream sauce.
About the estate:
Established for four generations in Mauves, the birthplace of the Saint-Joseph appellation, Pierre Coursodon, the father, and Jérôme, the son—who took over in 1999—manage 17 hectares of vineyards dedicated exclusively to Saint-Joseph, primarily the red variety. For many years, the wines from this estate have been featured in the Guide’s selections: with rare consistency, they are regular recipients of stars and Favorites designations.

About the estate:
The Coursodon family has been in the wine business since the late 19th century. The estate owns vineyards in the renowned regions of Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzol, and Glun. The whites display a lovely character, without excessive oak. As for the reds, L'Olivaie comes from the heart of Sainte-Épine, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. However, the most recent vintages struck us as overly assertive, with very pronounced oak notes. The result is wines that are not always easy to drink. We regretfully have to remove one star from the estate’s rating.

About the wine:
A well-structured and complex red wine, revealing aromas of wild red currants, wild herbs, roasted meat, dark chocolate, and warm spices. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins. Lively, balanced, and harmonious, with a long, flavorful finish. Ready to drink now or suitable for aging.

About the wine:
The 2023 Saint Joseph Silice is a magnificent wine, with a pure, balanced style—ranging from medium-bodied to full-bodied—along with the classic minerality of Saint Joseph, the vintage’s ripe, darker, almost blue red fruits, plenty of spice and floral notes, well-integrated oak, and exceptional length. Made entirely from Syrah, destemmed and aged for 12 months in barrels, it should shine right from its release.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on July 6, 2025
Medium-bodied and well-balanced, Silice 2022 continues to showcase its finesse thanks to the softness of its still-crisp tannins, complemented by tart and juicy red and black fruits, enhanced by a hint of spice. The acidity, less pronounced than in the previous vintage, enhances the liveliness and sensation of freshness, thereby extending the length of the finish. Easy to drink and savory, it paired easily in the heat with roasted pigeons and a fricassee of freshly picked chanterelle mushrooms. Score = 4.1.
