A grand red wine named after the eagle owls, the unobtrusive inhabitants of this small vineyard. Rich and elegant, this wine offers magnificent fruit enhanced by distinct spices, all wrapped in well-integrated oak. The finish will become even more sublime after two or three years of aging.

Wine rated 15/20 (2017 vintage) (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)

About the estate:

This small estate owns some lovely vineyards in Condrieu, some of which—such as Poncin—are very close to Château Grillet. We were more impressed by the red Saint-Josephs than by the Condrieus in 2017.
