Domaine Le Sang des Cailloux
The Domaine du Sang des Cailloux is located on the Garrigue Plateau, facing the Dentelles de Montmirail between Vacqueyras and Sarrians. Bathed in sunshine and swept by the mistral, the estate’s 17 hectares fall within the Vacqueyras appellation. The Domaine du Sang des Cailloux was founded in 1975 when the two brothers, Ricard and Serge Férigoule, went their separate ways; Serge became the estate’s proud owner in 1990. A new era then dawned for the estate.
Serge Férigoule works to develop, express, and refine his philosophy regarding his terroir. In 1991, Domaine du Sang des Cailloux opted for soil management practices adapted to the seasons and specific plots rather than chemical weed control. This allows for effective control of natural weed growth. In a similar vein, compost made from grape pomace and cow manure has replaced synthetic fertilizers. Throughout the year, the vines are carefully tended: tying, debudding, and thinning of fallen grapes when yields are too high. To harvest the very best fruit, only one cluster per shoot is left on the white grape varieties as well as on the Mourvèdre vines. The vines at Domaine du Sang des Cailloux are thinned depending on the plot and weather conditions. During the manual harvest, a systematic and rigorous sorting process is carried out in the vineyards. The construction of the new winery in 2001 has made it possible to refine the work done in the vineyards throughout the year, thanks to a range of tanks of various sizes.
