"It's impossible not to compare it to the great Burgundies or the famous Rayas 2002, but its character is entirely its own. Fresh and floral, of course, with absolute elegance and flavors of dried seaweed, it is lively and mouthwatering, with phenomenal length." (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France 2017)

Wine rated (2017 guide) 18,5/20 (Great wine)
Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)
About the estate:
Since his beginnings in the mid-1980s, Gérard Gauby has been an inspiring, demanding, and passionate winemaker. His vines are cultivated with love and respect for the plants and the ecosystem. He has revealed to the world the complexity and potential of the Calce terroir with its limestone and ferruginous schist soils. The winemaker has also successfully evolved his style towards less mature, purer and more airy wines. Accompanied by his son, he continues this quest, with his vintages gaining in expression and deliciousness. The whites are very straightforward, with superb longevity and controlled aging. The reds are pure and deep. The 2021 vintage is reaching new heights in both colors.

Note and opinion by Mr. ALAIN C. Published on January 15, 2017
A huge disappointment, like its big white brother. The cork had already passed through the bottle. The wine was clear and transparent with a brown disc. On the nose, aromas of sour beer. On the palate, a thin, stale wine. Painful. A second bottle opened did not show this premature oxidation, but was a light wine lacking in body and much less pleasant than the Calcinaires for a price five times higher... A third bottle opened was simply undrinkable for the same reasons of premature oxidation...
